Late 1960s Ludwig Standard No. S-102 14x5” Aluminium (#11683)

Date stamped: Jun 13 ____.

The year on the date stamp isn’t clear, but from other examples I’ve had in with similiar serial numbers, I would say this is 1968 or 1969.

Serial number: 11683

With original P83 script strainer, internal dampener, butt end, lugs, tension rods and hoops.

In the late 60s, the Ludwig Standard range was launched to compete with budget level Japanese ranges of the time. The two metal snare drum options in the Standard range were an aluminium 14x5" with chrome plating or with 'Acrolite' finish. This is essentially the same shell as the 60s Acrolites but without the centre bead - some would say, without the bead it gives it more of a focused sound.

This is a wonderful example, with only minor scuffs, aging and scratches.

See all photos for condition.

You can view a great video from Carter McLean playing one of these snares here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPSI6osuync

Catalog scan from 1968.

Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop, November 2022.

Fitted with brand new Remo Coated Ambassador and Ambassador snare side heads, and brand new Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires.
