1959-61 Slingerland 'Super Gene Krupa' Radio King 14x5.5" in Capri Pearl

1-ply solid maple shell with maple rerings. 8-lug design.

Chrome hardware including "Rim-shot" counterhoops, "Super Strainer", internal tone-control.

Finished in original Capri Pearl. These wraps were only available for a few years and differ significantly drum to drum. This wrap has quite purple/orange tinge to it. A previous owner looks to have cleaned the shell with the lugs still on which has scratched the shell slightly and around the badge has dulled a little. Please see photos for condition.

Slingerlands’ 1-ply shells are always sought after. I find the Clamshell models need the wires to be tighter than standard wires. I usually prefer my wires to be on the looser side but these provide that classic boxy Slingerland tone.

Currently there is a washer either side underneath the snare wire mounting screws. I have found that if the screws are dialled in fully, with only one washer underneath, the wires buckle over the edge of the shell. I have seen other collectors/restorers use numerous washers or nylon washers underneath as spacers. I will leave that to the buyer if they wish. These two loose washers may rattle, but these are original so wanted to include them. You can also remove them if you wished.

As often with these clamshell models, it’s hard for the snare wires to fully release and be in a completely ‘off’ position.

Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop in July 2020. I have fitted brand new Remo Vintage Ambassador and Ambassador snare side heads alongside new old stock Puresound Vintage Series Slingerland Radio King Clamshell snare wires.
