Late 20's Ludwig 'Pioneer' 14x4" Nickel Over Brass heavy Two-Piece shell 8-lug

The ‘Pioneer’ name often gets remembered for as being the lovely, yet budget 60’s 6-lug wooden snares from Ludwig. In the 20’s and 30’s, Pioneer, whilst being the ‘budget’ (ie. not 10 lug) isn’t quite ‘budget’ in the same sense. This is honestly one of the best drums to have ever come off my bench.

As you might know, the shell is the same two-piece heavy brass shell that were the same as used for the original 20’s Black Beauties. The real deal. This is 8-lug which I think let’s the drum sing much better. I find the 10-lug chokes the drum a bit much.

All era correct hardware including single flange hoops, strainer, tension rods and butt end. The hardware shines delightfully. The hoops show a bit of aging.

Freshly stripped, cleaned & polished in my workshop and fitted with brand new Remo heads and Puresound wires.
