1969 Ludwig ‘Piccolo’ 13x3"

Ludalloy shell. Original hardware. 6-lug.

Whilst the Blue & Olive badges are usually associated with the 70’s, the serial number on this one dates it to the transitional year of 1969 which would explain why it’s positioned the way it is on the shell, as the hole must’ve been originally drilled for the Keystone badge.

These little gems are rarely seen, and are worth snatching one when they're around as they're a top snare for your arsenal. Despite only a few cropping up, I know two top session drummers owning them and loving them.

The shell is the same ludalloy material as the 400 Supraphonics that everyone knows and loves so dearly. Similarly to the 400, this snare has a lovely amount of body and crack, and a tasteful amount of ring. Again, similarly to the Supraphonics, they are prone to pitting, but this one is in great shape.

One thing to note is, it seems a factory worker was confused with the off centre lugs and the drum has been drilled twice for the strainer. From the inside you can’t tell, and from the outside you can only just see the extra holes but only if you know to look. There is a bit of a scratch too beside the strainer and butt end but overall the shell is in great shape. You’d struggle to find a cleaner one.

The bottom hoop is quite scratched. It looks to have been on an old snare stand without rubber protectors.

Freshly cleaned and polished in my workshop. Fitted with brand new Remo heads and Puresound Custom Pro wires.
