This is a very rare and unique chrome over brass early example of the Cosmic 21 snare with earlier taller style hoops.
10-lug design
There are only a handful of these brass models known to be around. I suspect this was Beverleys first attempt to copy Ludwig’s Super-Ludwig brass model before it became the ‘Ludalloy’ 400 Supraphonic.
Titled the ‘21’ after it’s original cost of £21.
For the money, this is a great gigging and recording snare for any drummer. If this had a Ludwig badge on it, it would be going on double the price.
This example has minimal aging/pitting. Cosmic 21 snares were typically aluminium, but this shell being brass would explain the lack of flaking chrome. The hoops show some aging but overall it is in remarkable condition.
This is one of the best looking Cosmic 21 I’ve had in, and I’ve had plenty! The badge is almost fully in tact which is rare, but is missing the top part of the ‘b’.
With the shell being brass, it is not as dry as it’s aluminium rivals, but i’d say its warmer, brighter and is lovely and crisp.
Stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop in October 2020, and comes with used (but not abused) Remo Ambassador heads and brand new Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires.
