1950's Slingerland Radio King 'Bop' 13x4" Black Diamond Pearl
3-ply mahogany, 6 lug
Original nickel hardware all round. Strainer and damper intact and fully working.
Engraved Slingerland Radio King hoops.
These are scarcely seen. Catalog image from 1959. Snare drum looks to have been as part of the 2-piece 'Combo-Be Bop' configuration which consisted of 20x18" kick and 13x4" snare.
The lugs don't appear to be in the centre of the drum which means the tension of the batter head rods appears to be tighter as they have further to go.
On the reso side hoop, beside the snare wire cages, there is a crack either side. Photos show this. It seems to causing no grief though.
Skins are a bit tight on the batter side. This is quite common but they do fit. I tried Remo and Evans and settled on the fit and feel of Evans.
The strainer was scratching the top hoop so I have used washers underneath the mechanism to distance it away from the hoops.
Stripped, cleaned and fitted with brand new Evans heads and Puresound wires.
