May 1942 Ludwig 'Universal Concert' in Black and Gold Duco sized 14x6.5"
Date stamped: 4205, dating to May 1942.
3-ply shell with reinforcement rings.
Nickel over brass hardware throughout. Six timeless tube lugs, original strainer, butt end and original t-rods, claws and no flange hoops.
Duco finish has the expected signs of age. Hardware is generally good overall, the strainer perhaps shows its age most - where nickel plating has come off it shows the gold coloured brass underneath. I find it goes well with the gold stripe in the duco finish.
Fitted with new Remo Vintage Ambassador and Ambassador snare side heads and Puresound 30 strand wires.
This snare is a real beauty. She is incredibly warm and goes very fat with a touch of dampening.
Top hoop is engraved 'Ludwig Universal Model'. There is a hole in the batter side hoop - I suspect this is from the factory, perhaps an accidental hole. Some of these model snares had 'tango' strainers which were attached at the top hoop.
