3-ply maple/poplar/maple shell with maple rerings.
Chrome hardware including original strainer, single flange hoops, claws, tension rods and butt end.
8 lug design.
There is pitting on the lugs and on two, it has eaten into the lug a little. The chrome has also flaked off quite a bit on the bottom hoop but still works as it should.
Most of these drums I've seen have usually been maple/poplar/mahogany, maple being the outer so the duco can be lacquered on. This example has a maple inner too which gives it a more crispness as well as doing very well at tuning low and fat. I would say this is the more versatile example out of all I’ve had in. It's a lovely drum to start a vintage collection or to compliment an already growing collection.
The duco finish is original and has signs of its age, but I think that’s part of its charm. It's a lovely rare finish which is seldom seen.
The strainer has been fitted with a rubber washer as the original cork one had disintegrated. It works well, but if the strainer falls all the way down, it does need a bit of encouragement engaging again. I find a little push from the bottom whilst pulling up does the trick. Once you have the knack, it’s no problem.
This drum was originally cleaned in 2020. It has recently come back into the workshop in remarkably the same condition after the original buyer is now after something a little bit different. Fitted with Remo Coated Ambassador, Ambassador Hazy heads and Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires.
