Mar 31 1964 Ludwig 'Super Classic' 14x5.5" in White Marine Pearl

Serial number: 20828. Keystone badged.

Date stamped: Mar 31 1964.

3-ply shell mahogany/poplar/mahogany with maple rerings and white interior coating. Chrome hardware.

Here we have a great players classic drum. A great opportunity to own a classic at a lower price with some nice perks.

These Super Classic snares were basically a Jazz Festival but with an awkward strainer which now you can’t get wires for. A previous owner drilled an extra hole to put in what I presume was a later Ludwig strainer. I have used the original two holes to mount the wonderful Inde strainers. This now means the drum is playable and you can fit any wires you choose.

The drum is fitted with its' original chrome over brass hoops which are beat up in places but really add to the drum.

The wrap is in nice shape and has aged well. There is a scratch on the backside of the drum which has a red mark in the scratch. This hasn’t polished out.

The badge is a bit beat up (I think the edges have caught and bent it) but I have done my best to flatten it without removing the badge.

The original internal dampener would’ve been the red felt baseball bat muffler. This was missing when it came in, and these are very expensive vintage parts, and honestly, not the best dampener around, so to keep costs down, I have not refitted one. Go and get yourself a Snareweight instead! The buyer can of course fit one at a later date if preferred.

The tension rods are modern.

The butt end is 70s, but takes the same hole spaces. The buyer can of course fit a 60s original one at a later date if preferred. Of course this is a players drum and so I didn’t spend more money making it more original when it will never be an original collectors model. We just want this drum to be played and appreciated again.

Catalog scan from 1963/4.

Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop June 2020.

Fitted with brand new Remo Vintage Ambassador and Ambassador snare side heads with Puresound Custom Pro steel wires.
