In the late 60s, the Ludwig Standard range was launched to compete with budget level Japanese ranges of the time. The two metal snare drum options in the Standard range were an aluminium 14x5" with chrome plating or with 'Acrolite' finish. This drum, is the chrome plated version and is essentially the same shell as a 400 Supraphonic but with 8 lugs and without the centre bead.
The shell is stamped ‘Reliable Anti-Galvanic’, as stamped on the 400s at the time.
Comes fitted with original P83 strainer, butt end, lugs, hoops, tension rods and internal dampener.
There is plenty of pitting on the shell, but the hardware shows aging with a bit of pitting, scuffs and scratches but this is all to be expected. There is also some pitting on the bottom age. I’ve seen worse and I’ve never heard of any issues with drums with similiar pitting.
See all photos for condition.
These are really wonderful drums, especially for the money. A kind of half way point between a chromed 400 but with the 8 lugs of an Acrolite.
Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop, October 2021.
Fitted with brand new Remo Vintage Ambassador and Ambassador snare side heads, and brand new Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires.
