Ludwig Super-Ludwig 400 Chrome over Brass 14x5"
Transitional badge dates it to circa 1958-59.
Legendary heavy chrome over brass shell with signature crimpled snare beds and brass hoops too!
Comes with all original hardware including WFL strainer & butt, internal muffler, COB hoops and tension rods.
This is the studio and live snare to have! As used by many for decades. The Rolls Royce of metal snares.
This drum sounds delicious and hasn’t got the honkiness like some of these do. It’s controlled and beautifully warm.
As quoted from the original catalog by Joe Morello "Man, it cuts through like crazy!"
There is dents, scratches and aging but honestly as I’ve found with these COB 400s. The beat up ones are usually the best sounding. It’s beat up because it’s been gigged and recorded for years. They scratch and dent easily because they are heavy and if dropped or bashed into something it will show.
You can thank the scratching on the bottom hoop to vintage snare stands which didn’t come with rubber to protect the drums/hoops.
The Transitional badge often makes these drums a collectors item, but this is a players drum, with proof of its years of service and it wants to be kept that way!
Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop. Now fitted with brand new Remo Vintage Ambassador, Ambassador snare side heads and Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires.
