Legendary 3-ply mahogany, poplar, mahogany shell with maple rerinforcing hoops.
All original nickel over brass hardware featuring the built like tank ‘zephyr’ lugs, where the tension rods are tapped directly into the casing.
Double flange hoops.
This WFL badge should date it to 1948-52, but I suspect this is an early ‘Contest Model’ as these are shown catalogued from 1948 with the bowtie lugs, but the lugs on this drum are the earlier, perhaps left over, zephyr lugs.
There are scuffs and minor scratches on the shell, as well as a few ply splits where the hardware has been tightened into the shell. Nothing too major or causing any effect though.
These WFL era mahogany shells are some of the best shells ever made in my opinion.
This drum came into the workshop in great condition. I have given it a minor spruce up, notably polishing up the shell and checking everything over.
Fitted with brand new Remo Coated Ambassador and Ambassador snare side heads and brand new Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires. The drum came with both original calf heads and wires, which I will also include.
