Nickel over brass shell
No flange hoops with stamped top hoop ‘Leedy Utility Model’.
The drum is in great shape considering its age, but there is some aging, mostly on the top hoop and strainer. See photos for condition.
There is one little dink in the bead of the shell. This is photographed.
These are the same shells as the Ludwig Pioneers of the 30s, which are some of my favourite snares.
The strainer is original. Officially the holes on the strainer should be pointed down, but when switching between the snare wires being on and off, you have to push in the bottom to point them downwards or else the strainer lever can disengage whilst playing, so I decided to have the holes pointing outward which allows the snare wires to be consistently and reliably set ‘on’. This doesn’t allow for the wires to be turned off in this configuration but at least they are reliably going to be on and won’t fall off. Neither options is perfect, but you may find a compromise that suits you or if you choose, install a different strainer.
Tension rods and hoop claws are modern.
Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop May 2021.
Fitted with brand new Remo Coated Ambassador and Ambassador snare side heads with Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires.
