Feb 8 1961 Ludwig ‘Club Date’ 22x14", 13x9", 15x12" and 14x5.5” in original Blue and Silver Duco

Factory sized ‘Club Date’ set up as shown in the 1960 catalog with matching ‘Jazz Festival’ 14x5.5” snare also available as an optional purchase.

All shells are date stamped Feb 8 1961. All drums are pre-serial Keystone badged. All drums feature nickel over brass hardware and hoops.

Overall, the hardware has cleaned up nicely, but the aging it has occurred is of course to be expected. Similarly, the lacquer finish has flaked and crazed which gives it some great character which you couldn’t replicate. A previous owner, has touched in the bare wood in places with blue ink or crayon. Please see all photos for condition.

22x14” bass drum:

10 lug, seperate tension. 3-ply (maple [outer], poplar [inner], mahogany [inner] shell with maple reinforcing rings and bare mahogany interior.

Original shell mount folding spurs and disappearing cymbal holder - (please note: splash cymbal is not included with the sale).

The 13” tom is mounted on the bass drum by a clamp on the hoop.

Original blue bass drum hoops with silver sparkle inlay.

Fitted with brand new Remo Coated Ambassador (batter) and Remo Fiberskyn Ambassador (reso) with Ludwig and Joe Cox Drums decals.

On the interior of the badge, they have factory applied a keystone badge as a spacer. This isn’t often seen and is a nice rare touch.

13x9” tom:

6 lug. 3-ply (maple [outer], poplar [inner], mahogany [inner] shell with maple reinforcing rings and bare mahogany interior.

Fitted with brand new Remo Vintage Ambassador (batter) and Remo Clear Ambassador (reso).

15x12” tom:

8 lug. 3-ply (maple [outer], poplar [inner], maple [inner] shell with maple reinforcing rings and bare maple interior.

This is an original drum and size offered at the time as part of the first generation Club Date sizes before they became 20”, 12”, 14”. Being a shallow drum, the legs are a bit short but they are of course original and please bear this in mind if you like your drum high. You might need to purchase longer legs.

The tom mounts are the original spring loaded mounts which work as they should. I find the legs are best kept on the drum for ease of setting up. The legs are fitted with original rubber ends.

Fitted with brand new Remo Vintage Ambassador (batter) and Remo Clear Ambassador (reso).

14x5.5” ‘Jazz Festival snare (optional) :

8 lug. Whilst cataloged as 14x5”, this is actually more like a 5.5” depth (the Ringo Jazz Festival size!). 3-ply (maple [outer], poplar [inner], mahogany [inner] shell with maple reinforcing rings and original white interior.

The butt end is era correct, but it is chrome and not nickel. The bottom hoop has a crack in it but does still tension ok. The original nickel strainer has worn and the handle doesn’t have much plating or shine on it anymore but does work as it should with a nice smooth action.

Fitted with brand new Remo Vintage Ambassador (batter) and Remo Clear Ambassador Snare Side (reso) with Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires.

As the four drums were born together, I would of course love for them to stay together, but if the buyer doesn’t want to purchase the snare, there is the option to just buy the 3-piece.

Freshly stripped, cleaned and polished in my workshop across three weeks in May 2020. Fitted with brand new Remo heads all round and Puresound snare wires.
